Duelling Axes III : Call for composers, electro-acoustic, and experimental music performers.

Saturday, December 12th 2020.
7pm to 10pm.

Call for composers, electro-acoustic, and experimental music performers.

Deadline: Friday, Demeber 4th 2020.

Hi there BEAMERS!

This is a call out for any of you who would like to take part in an online event. The third Duelling Axes.

Duelling Axes is an ongoing B.E.A.M.S. event where experimental sound and music artists use the left and right outputs of their instruments or devices to control a digital oscilloscope. The effects are unique to each artist from messy lines to beautiful patterns. This event is sponsored by AMAAS and each performing artist will receive $25. There are 9 spots available for this event (20 minute performances). The only requirements are you need to have a twitch account, and to be able to screen share a digital oscilloscope from your own computer, with the sounds you are making all to twitch.

You are welcome to use any digital oscilloscope. If you don't have one or know where to get one you can find one here:

oscilloscopemusic.com

There's also many other resources on this site you can check out.

To be considered for this event we need from you a sample twitch performance that is two to five minutes in length. Please send us a link to the video recording on your twitch account.

Art's Birthday 2020. 6pm to midnight

For the first time in more than a decade, the Edmonton contingent involved in the international Art’s Birthday event comes back to the Old Strathcona neighbourhood, with its irreverent take on culture. This year’s event, presented once again by the Boreal Electroacoustic Music Society, takes place Saturday, Jan. 18 at 8 p.m. at the Old Strathcona Community League (10139-87 Avenue). An art exhibition at the same location starts at 6 p.m.
Performing live at the event, Art’s Birthday Edmonton 2020, will be Blip Vert, frozenlake121, Shawn Pinchbeck, Karl Michael Toepfer, Skrunt Skrunt, Damno Te, Pizzarhea! And SWILL. Videos between sets will include those by Eiduneau, Fecal Point, Mescalin and John Oparyk.
Some of the Artists displaying a variety of their works for the art exhibition starting at 6pm are local artists Leah Wilson, Brenda Philp, and Blane Klack.  Come by to view their works, socialize, and inquire about purchasing if there is something that catches your eye.
Art’s Birthday Edmonton previously ran in Old Strathcona at the Scona Pool in 2009, the second time the event was held in the city. It first took place in 2008 at the now-defunct ARTery. Other locations that hosted Art’s Birthday include the Ortona Armoury, Bohemia, Naked Cyber Café and the now-defunct Brittany’s Lounge.
Art’s Birthday originated in 1963 when French surreal artist Robert Filliou declared that art didn’t exist until a million years ago when someone dropped a dry sponge into a pail of water. Choosing his own birthday of Jan. 17 to celebrate the event, Fillious proposed a public holiday in celebration of art. It has since been adopted by participants in more than 20 countries.
Admission to Art’s Birthday Edmonton 2020 is $10 for beams members and $20 for guests who will also receive a free membership.
For more information, contact BEAMS at info@beams.ca.  Or through our social media.
